Snarkiness Made Real

Holy crap hold onto your hats friends.  See the little boy in the middle?  He is the living, Peruvian incarnation of the kid on the cooler sans ice cream cone (see post below).  Just look at the size of his hat and how unhappy he is!

And I thought I was just taking a photo of cute kids in traditional outfits.  The world works in mysterious ways.

  1. Stasia, I've been reading your blog in preparation for a podcast I'll soon be recording about Peru. The show is called Egotourism, and it's a casually prepared, seldom accurate, occasionally amusing travel guide that focuses on a different unpopular country in each episode. I co-host it with my friend and fellow RPCV Brian (Armenia, 2006-2008). It really isn't very good. I guess it's hit-or-miss. We have fun doing it, of course, and it satisfies our appetite for international oddities. I think our most recent episode on Russia was a "miss" but only because we recorded in person (whereas we're usually remote) and involved more than just the two of us. Anyway, if you're going to listen, try a different episode first... maybe Ukraine or Azerbaijan. You should also follow us on Twitter (@egotourism) if you're into that sort of thing. Anyway, we'll probably end up quoting your blog in our Peruvian episode, so I wanted to make sure that's okay. We'll probably do it anyway, even if it's not okay. Once we've recorded, edited, and uploaded the episode to the iTunes store, you and your friends should definitely download it and then berate/applaud us via Twitter and e-mail (egotourism@yahoo.com). Would you be willing and able to do an interview for the show? Skype? Otherwise our only interview will be with an acquaintance of ours who visited Peru last month, but he's an "old money" prick from Maine, and I'd rather get the scoop from a PCV with giardia. We've been there, Stasia. Tsavd tanem ("Let me take your pain"), as they say in Armenia. Okay, be in touch.

I feel it's worth noting that while our podcast has been downloaded by a few thousand people around the world, we have never logged a download in South America. We had one download that appeared to have occurred inside the Kremlin, which still scares the shit out of me.

  3. Stasia, I'm sorry if my post encourages "bro riding a four-wheeler" blogs to seek cross-marketing opportunities, as the second post seems to do. Incidentally, Chuck and Chadd do seem to epitomize "egotourism" as the OED might define it. Follow us, brah.
